Wir in Dresden

Wir in Dresden

This is the first titled series of photographs I have taken. It is a record of a special time for me at the School on Wheels of the Derevo Theatre in Dresden. The title refers to an advertisement for a radio station broadcasting from the town where the school was located. There was a sticker with the advertisement on the cabinet in my first darkroom, arranged in the building of a former East German radio factory.

In the School on Wheels group we developed a show together and went on tour to theaters and festivals around Europe. The photos were taken on the Dutch island of Terschelling, a place famous for its tides that retreat up to 10 km and the thousands of wrecks around the island. I like the timelessness of these photographs. The people bathing in the sea, nude, carefree and unconstrained among the waves, could have been photographed at any time in history.
